If you have had sex without using contraception, or you think your contraception has failed, you may be able to use emergency hormonal contraception (morning after pill). If you act quickly, this can usually prevent pregnancy.
Morning after pills (sometimes called 'emergency hormonal contraception') must be started within 3 days (72 hours) from the time you had unprotected sex. But they are much more effec- tive if taken within the first 24 hours, so it's important to act quickly.
